Yes. In men, elevated estradiol — typically from peripheral aromatization of testosterone, exacerbated by higher adiposity, supraphysiologic dosing, or alcohol use — is associated with irritability, low mood, anxiety, emotional lability, water retention, breast tenderness, and paradoxically reduced libido despite adequate testosterone. The relationship is not linear: both extremes are problematic. Over-suppression of estradiol with aromatase inhibitors produces its own well-documented symptom set — joint pain, low libido, depressed mood, poor lipid profile, and accelerated bone loss. The optimization target is a balanced range, individualized to the patient.
