What is erectile dysfunction?
Erectile dysfunction (ED) is consistent difficulty achieving or maintaining an erection sufficient for satisfactory sexual function. Causes are typically vascular, hormonal, neurologic, or psychogenic.
Full answer
Erectile dysfunction is common, increases with age, and is frequently an early signal of vascular disease — endothelial dysfunction in the penile vasculature often precedes coronary disease by years. Hormonal contributors include low testosterone, hyperprolactinemia, and thyroid dysfunction. Within oMeds review, ED workup includes total and free testosterone, SHBG, estradiol, prolactin, thyroid status, fasting glucose, A1C, and a lipid panel, alongside symptom and medication history. Pathway design addresses underlying drivers in addition to symptom relief.
