Rheumatoid factor (RF) and anti-cyclic citrullinated peptide antibodies (anti-CCP) are both used to evaluate suspected rheumatoid arthritis. RF is sensitive but non-specific — it can be elevated in hepatitis C, Sjögren's syndrome, and even healthy older adults. Anti-CCP has specificity exceeding 95% in most assays and frequently predates clinical RA by years. Within oMeds review, both are ordered together when inflammatory joint symptoms are present, and high-titer anti-CCP positivity warrants prompt rheumatology referral.
